This (model A or mod a) open frame LED lamp uses scrap wood, some aluminum sheet, found glass for the diffuser, in this case a telephone insulator, a bit of wire and an LED from China off Ebay.

This (model B or mod b) open frame LED lamp uses a large block of glass as the diffuser. The frame itself is 2x4 wood. An aluminum wrap inside with two LEDs make this a very bright emitter.
